“I do not know what to say – said the Sic – I was competitive, I could stay with Lorenzo and Pedrosa. At the first corner, I, Pedrosa and Stoner have lost the rear and for this I came to the fourth corner in second gear instead of first to have a bike less nervous. At the center of the curve, however, closed gas, the bike gave me: I definitely was a mistake. I must be more careful: in two races in which I was very fast, I have not even won a point. I’m fast, now I’ll try to be more concrete. ”
Outside Simoncelli, with Stoner a bit ‘in difficulty, as already seen in testing, the GP of Portugal has enhanced the challenge ravvicinatissima between Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa, who for 24 laps were a wake in the other, with Lorenzo and Pedrosa to dictate the pace off up to one tenth. It was feared that Dani, fresh from surgery on his left arm, could not keep the pace until the end, however, a little ‘surprise, was the world champion to give up and Pedrosa was relatively easy to gain the first victory is the third podium of the season.
Third Casey Stoner, who made the race solo, while the fourth place there was a sprint between Valentino Rossi and Andrea Dovizioso, who beat Dovi with Vale for 25 milliseconds. For both, a better race than in qualifying, but the first are still a bit ‘too far away (16 seconds).
Definitely pleased with Pedrosa.
“The last 15 laps were very hard – says Spanish – because his shoulder was hurting, especially when changing direction. Incredible win a victory after the operation: I have to thank the doctors and all those who were close to me. I have been throughout the race behind Lorenzo because he is very strong here, but I think I can stay so long with him. At that point I thought it was right to try and got a fantastic victory. ”
So, for the first time in his career in MotoGP, Lorenzo must comment on a defeat at Estoril.
“I was pleased – he says – two second places and a first in three races is definitely a great start to the season. At first I tried to go away, but Dani has been very good to follow me: and more at the end and won deservedly. ”
For Casey Stoner, the race was decided in the early laps.
“Simoncelli crashed in front of me and I initially had many problems in the left corners. I lost time, but then I got a good rhythm and end of the race I felt strong. I’m not too happy with my performance, but the podium is still a positive result. ”
Too bad Ben Spies, who after having impressed in winter testing, is failing in the race for the U.S. Yamaha has fallen to the 13th lap when he was ten, after straight, long, contacts and wrong overtaking.
MOTO2
Stefan Bradl second win of the season, ahead of Julian Simon and Yuki Takahashi. But, once again, the great protagonist of Moto2 Andrea Iannone was the author of a spectacular comeback from 14th place. In very difficult in practice, Andrea has been transformed in the race and as always with a series of incredible overtaking and fast laps was into the lead on lap 22. In the next step, however, is unfortunately Iannone crashed at the hairpin uphill: failed to start but finished 13th. Simone Corsi, fifth, was it the best Italian riders at the finish.
