Valentino Rossi Spotted At Yamaha's European HQ: The Deal Is Done - AMENDED AND CORRECTED

It appears that the story below, on Valentino Rossi having been spotted at Yamaha Motor Europe's headquarters in Amsterdam, was based on incorrect information, and was false. The story came from a hacked Twitter account, connected to a compromised Gmail account. Please see the retraction we have published elsewhere for full details.

The original story as we first published it appears below:

Valentino Rossi is set to make a return to Yamaha, abandoning Ducati after two long and difficult years of failure. The Italian was spotted at Yamaha Motor Europe's headquarters at Schiphol-Rijk, an industrial estate next to Amsterdam's Schiphol airport, by former racer Niall Mackenzie, who was visiting the Yamaha HQ while negotiating a deal for his younger son Tarran to race in Superstock next season. The Scotsman posted the sighting - naming only a 'well-known Italian' wearing 'a big smile on his face' - on his Twitter page, but when contacted by Thomas Baujard of the French magazine Moto Journal, confirmed his report to the magazine.

Stoner blames traffic for missing pole

Casey Stoner said traffic prevented him from showing his full potential in MotoGP qualifying at Laguna Seca, after losing pole position to Jorge Lorenzo by 0.074 seconds. Lorenzo and Stoner exchanged provisional pole twice in a thrilling finale to the United States Grand Prix grid-deciding session. But Stoner encountered traffic on both his late runs, and ultimately saw his Yamaha rival secure the top spot – ending a run of Honda poles that began at Estoril in early May

"Indeed I am happy to grow with them. We also have had several classes racing together," said Stoner. "Our competition was also fantastic. Rivalry we have achieved a high level."

Since 2008, the trio has always been ranked in the top four. They are also likely to dominate the podium this season terpuncak.

"After retirement, I will remember those moments. I'm proud to be part of this fight, especially with them. Any podium that we achieved together is really impressive," said the Australian rider.

UPDATE: Valentino Rossi NOT Spotted at Yamaha Europe HQ – Twitter Hoax Adds to Silly Season Drama

The story we published yesterday about Valentino Rossi having been spotted at Yamaha’s European headquarters by former racer Niall Mackenzie turns out to have been incorrect. We, along with the French publication Moto Journal and the German-language magazine Speedweek were victims of a hoax. A Frenchman, speaking perfect English, had compromised the Twitter account of Niall Mackenzie and linked his own email address to it, so that the attempts we made to verify the news led to ...

Trackside Tuesday: Third Time’s the Charm?

Only a select few men in the world can say they have defeated Valentino Rossi in a last lap duel in a MotoGP race. On that very short list is one Toni Elias, who bested the Italian legend to the checkered flag for his first and only premier class victory at Estoril in 2006, on a satellite machine no less. Championship-deciding repercussions aside, the win granted Elias a contract extension at a time when his ...

One of the best selling motorcycles in the United States, the Kawasaki Ninja 250R is ...

2012 Silverstone WSBK Friday Round Up: Rain, Rumours and Results

One of the paddock's worst-kept secrets was the cancellation of the Portimao round at the end of the 2012 World Superbike championship. Luckily for fans of the Portugese circuit, the track was confirmed as definitely being on the calendar, as the financial penalties for its not being held were greater than the costs. This, however, wasn't the biggest rumour to hit the paddock as, fresh on the heels of Ben Spies being almost certain to join the BWM Motorrad Italia team next year alongside Marco Melandri, we were treated with hints that Valentino Rossi would possibly be joining the Superbike paddock on a Yamaha in 2015.

Almost fell, Lorenzo Admit Best Stoner at Laguna Seca

INbolnet -   Despite failing to win the U.S. MotoGP, Jorge Lorenzo left Laguna Seca circuit remains as head of the standings. Start from pole position, Lorenzo left the Honda duo, Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa from the start of racing.

Before the race, Stoner chose the rear tires (soft) when other riders chose the hard rear tire (hard). The strategy was predicted to fail is very powerful. Lorenzo was overtaken by Stoner when leaving a 10 lap race.

"From the beginning, I have endeavored to widen the distance. But I nearly fell on the Corner Corkscrew, and it seems to be its own motivation for Casey. He overtook me just one lap after the incident," said Lorenzo.

Yamaha Factory Racing rider claimed he could not keep the rhythm of racing again since the incident. He also said that the soft tire seemed a more appropriate strategy.

"However, this time Casey is the best and the fastest. It's not my momentum," continued the rider nicknamed Por Fuera.

Although disappointed, Lorenzo got the advantage of four points from Pedrosa, who finished in third position. "Being on the podium is very important. We managed to keep the spot from Dani," said Lorenzo's team manager, Wilco Zeelenberg. "Now we will rest and prepare for the Indianapolis series."

MotoGP will re-visited the realm of the United States on August 17 to 19 next at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Circuit.
