MOTOGP | Stefan Bradl chooses race number | Crash.Net

Stefan Bradl, the reigning Moto2 world champion has announced that he will race with the #6 on his LCR Honda during his debut MotoGP season.

“Dear Fans! Now it´s official, my new racing number is “6″. I´m sure it´s a lucky number :-) See you soon!” Bradl wrote on his official Facebook page.

The young German previously rode with the #65, which looks to have been retired as a mark of respect for the record-breaking career of MotoGP veteran Loris Capirossi.

Bradl, who tested an 800cc RC212V at Valencia, will make his debut on the 1000cc RC213V during the start of the first Sepang test, on January 31st.

Bradl is the only 2012 MotoGP rookie to race a factory-built prototype, rather than a CRT machine.

Provisional Entry Lists Announced: 21 MotoGP Riders, 33 In Moto2 And 32 In Moto3

The FIM today released the provisional entry lists for all three Grand Prix classes, and the grids are looking remarkably healthy. Some 21 riders will line up in the MotoGP class, the Moto2 grid has been shrunk to a more manageable 33 entries, and 32 riders will be at the start for the inaugural season of racing in the Moto3 class, the grid the same size as it was for last year's 125cc class, which Moto3 replaces.

There are no surprises in the MotoGP class. As expected, there are 21 entries: 12 factory prototype entries and 9 CRT entries. Of the factory prototypes (which includes satellite machines), the three factory teams remain unchanged with the exception of the reduction of the Repsol Honda squad from three riders to two, Andrea Dovizioso having been dropped, despite finishing 3rd in the championship in 2011 ahead of Dani Pedrosa, who retains his seat. Dovizioso joins Cal Crutchlow at Monster Tech 3, Yamaha maintaining its commitment at 4 YZR-M1 machines. Both Honda and Ducati have cut back to just two satellite bikes apiece, with the bikes spread over four different teams. Stefan Bradl, whose usual number, 65, was retired in honor of Loris Capirossi, has elected to use the number 6.

Wrooom 2012 Tuesday Round Up: Rossi And Hayden Talk About The New Ducati, New Contracts, And The 1000s

The launch of Ducati's 2012 season got properly underway this morning, when Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden faced questions from the press at Madonna di Campiglio, the Italian ski resort that hosts Ducati's Wrooom event. After a disastrous 2011, much of the focus of questioning was on the new Ducati GP12, the bike missing from the festivities at Wrooom, but to make its first public appearance at the Sepang test. The delay, according to various reports, is more to do with finalizing the livery, with details still to be hammered out with sponsors.

The French Connection by Deus Customs

Deus Customs is a motorcycle tuning company based in Australia that specializes in building custom bikes for custom people. One of their recent creations is the French Connection, a custom-made bike that was built and designed specifically for Moto GP1 star, Randy De Puniet.

For this bike, De Puniet wanted something that could pass as a middleweight, 2-up, twin-type that is versatile enough to hit the city streets while having enough durability to last during those out-of-town trips.

To get the bike up-to-character, Deus painted the Kawasaki W650-based French Connection bike with an orange, white, and black paint finish. The tuning firm also dressed up the rims and hubs in a black satin film while fitting in a vintage style headlight that supports the tachometer.

Deus also tweaked the bike’s performance set-up, working around its 649cc engine and putting new K&N filters and a custom 2-into-2 system. The company also modified the forks before dressing up the front and rear guards in a pair of Firestone tires.

All in all, we think that Randy De Puniet enjoyed his new custom bike. As far as we’re concerned, the name by itself - the French Connection - is enough for us to notice it.

We at MotoMatters.com are very privileged to be working with a man of such prolific talent as Scott Jones. His blog posts and photo stories are always some of the most popular items on the website, and his sharp eye and uncanny knack of capturing the perfect motorcycle racing image have seen his star rise rapidly among the ranks of professional motorcycle racing photographers.

Fifty-three minutes is how long Filippo Preziosi spoke to the press at Ducati's 2012 Wrooom event at Madonna di Campiglio. The Ducati Corse General Manager spoke extensively on the work that had gone in to the Desmosedici GP12 to be debuted by Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi at Sepang, on the data gathered by Ducati's riders throughout the 2011 season and in the post-race test at Valencia, on the Bridgestone tires and the problems they caused for engineers, on the lessons learned from comparing a carbon fiber chassis using the engine as a stressed member against an aluminium twin spar chassis, and about the approach taken to solving the problems encountered during the 2011 season. But despite his extended and fascinating presentation, he gave virtually nothing away about the actual bike itself.
