The first MotoGP race of the year has been run and won, so we've got our first Glimpse at what season of 2011 is going to look like. And it seems a it's going to look like the Honda Cup. Delivering on the promise the bike showed last year, Honda's RC212V took four of the top five finishing spots in Qatar, with only defending champion Jorge Lorenzo waving the flag for Yamaha in second place. Ben Spies rode to an Encouraging sixth place for Yamaha, and the Rossi / Ducati combination started with a whimper, not a bang, in 7th. Smart money would have to be on Australian Casey Stoner for the title; after a brief dice with a wearied Dani Pedrosa, Stoner strolled away to a 3.5-second win.

The sky-high cost of prototype racing at MotoGP level is evidenced by the fact That only three manufacturers are racing prototype giving an honest shot in 2011 - Honda, Yamaha and Ducati, with a token contribution from a single machine Suzuki half-heartedly fulfilling its contractual obligations.

Towards the end of 2010, Honda started making some very effective changes to its RC211V - not happy That Cleary as The Biggest motorcycle company in the world, it has been starved of championship success since Nicky Hayden Valentino Rossi caught what fumbled in 2006. By the end of last year, the Honda was showing some serious straight-line speed, and were the resource persons it not for a late-season injury, Dani Pedrosa was starting to look like he Might mount a serious title assault.

There's no question this year: the Honda is the bike to be on. Which makes Casey Stoner's decision to leave purgatory at Ducati and come across to the factory Repsol Honda team a very wise one. Fast and focused, Stoner diced with a weakening Pedrosa briefly before walking home the first race of 2011 and sending a clear shot across the bows of Yamaha and Ducati. Hondas took third, fourth and fifth as well, with Pedrosa, Dovizioso and Simoncelli. That's a pretty awe-inspiring lineup of talented rider, on a bike that's Cleary got the goods.

Yamaha, sponsorless in 2011 despite retaining the defending champion Lorenzo, took second place and sixth, although Jorge never looked like a serious challenge to Stoner. Ben Spies looked promising in 6th, and Likely would have done better if he did not have to dice with Valentino Rossi for most of the race.

Rossi CAME home 7th, Cleary struggling with Both the Ducati and his injured shoulder, but Able to put on quite a show as he Kept a faster Spies at bay for much of the race. A front-end slide That ended scrap and just about Rossi put upside down. Rossi and team chief Jerry Burgess Will have Their hands full getting the Italian bike to co-operate - and motorcycling's Brightest Star Certainly does not want to Eke out the twilight of his career on a non-competitive machinery. Hoping he'll be Ducati That the money saved by pulling out of World Superbike Desmosedici can help turn the into a race-winner - And that his body is up to the challenge too.

Meanwhile, Casey Stoner is a hard man to beat Pls he's on a fast bike. He's meticulous, ruthless and a Fiery competitor. Years of struggling with a bike nobody else seemed to be Able to ride have honed a fine edge on his riding skills - and he looks like he's enjoying a beach holiday aboard the Honda. Stoner for 2011 Champion - it's looking like a pretty good bet. But as Rossi found out last year, anything can Happen.

HRC Press Release: Andrea Dovizioso On MotoGP Electronics, Moto2, And Italian Riders

Every so often, the major factories will send out press releases containing interviews with riders. All too often, however, those interviews turn out to be rather sanitized affairs, any critical note removed by company PR people. So the following interview with Andrea Dovizioso comes as a breath of fresh air. Despite being a press release from Honda, Dovizioso talks freely about the state of the Honda RC212V, the state of Italian riders, Moto2 and MotoGP. He offers some clear and cogent criticism of the Moto2 class, and calls, as so many riders have done, for a drastic reduction in electronics in MotoGP. A very interesting read.

ANDREA DOVIZIOSO FEATURE

Repsol Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso is having the best year of his MotoGP career.

Now in his fourth year in the MotoGP class, and third with the Repsol Honda team, Dovi heads to his home race at Mugello third in the championship and not far from second. Consistency has been his strength this season. The Italian from Forli, one of three 25-year-old former world champions on the Repsol Honda team, has been on the podium in three of the past four races, including in the cold and wet at Silverstone and on the cold track in the Dutch TT in Assen. Other than an off day in the wet/dry Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, Dovizioso hasn't been worse than fourth this year.

Journalists give an opinion on Rossi and Ducati

Journalists give an opinion on Rossi and Ducati

Journalists give an opinion on Rossi and Ducati

ASSEN – no point in hiding behind a finger on the Ducati and Valentino Rossi all odds I was wrong. Honestly, I was convinced that Valentine would have fared better, as I did not think that the Ducati would have been capable of a response so fast. Now it has arrived at Assen GP11.1, deeply modified the frame and, consequently, in the engine, I’m not sure what to expect. So I decided to avoid yet another fool, and I asked the opinion of Italian journalists who follow the MotoGP World Championship, asking them two questions: 1) Did you expect a response so rapid and so important by the Ducati? 2) From now on forward do you expect better results from Valentino Rossi?

Here is the result of my mini-survey.
PHILIP Falsaperla (BBC)
1) was not quite imagine such a thing. Remaking a motorcycle from scratch in mid-season for a small house like the Ducati is something unpredictable and perhaps the result of an offensive strategy that goes beyond the limits of logic.
2) the psychological aspect can certainly have a positive influence , as well as having to prove something important. But I think that changing the character of a motorcycle with some moves can not be: this bike was to be 2012 and in very difficult times (during the presentation of Madonna di Campiglio, note) had been told that the revolution would not be a GP12, but a simple evolution. Probably there will be improvements, but the gap is wide: to recover up to win I think is very difficult. It is perhaps easier to approach the podium. ”

PAUL SCALERA (Corriere dello Sport)
1) A response so rapid it was a surprise, though the last month and a half all the tests were made ??with the GP12 think that, at least, would try to use the developments on the GP11. I did not expect even did debut a completely new bike, which may make some big steps forward, but also great risks.
2) will start a little ‘difficult, but if you have taken this decision so risky, and certainly expensive although, on this aspect, Filippo Preziosi (the engineer technical director of Ducati Corse, nda) has minimized, meaning that they have had some positive feedback: a minimum improvement would not do so.

GUIDO MEDA (Sport Mediaset)
1) I did not expect a reaction from Ducati so speedy. Stupidly, though: I should have thought, I should have remembered the words that Valentino has said several times during this season, how good is this group of work, like Ducati are more reactive. We had said that there was no comparison with the Japanese and he was right.
2) No. In the sense that I think it’s fair to have a modicum of patience. I expect they get better results, but not immediately. I expect him to have a better feeling with the bike, perhaps will go well at Mugello, where he has already shot with a similar motion with the 1000. But here at Assen is not certain that you can expect to win or wins hands down: it would be folly.

MAXIMUM ANGELETTI (Rai)
1) In part, I expected a reaction from the Ducati I was surprised at the lack of answers. A company like Ducati, being small, has made ??technology his best weapon and I was amazed that put her in the field so I’m not very surprised by this technological response.
2) Rossi is unknown: it is up to date not just that feeling. A Valentine certainly not missing the class, technique, courage, but lack the confidence, confidence with the bike. I hope that with this news we can find it: we will see the results immediately. ”

Carlo Pernat (grid, Capirossi’s manager)
1) It was in a violent reaction of the Ducati. I did not expect a total reaction, because here we are talking about a complete bike. Being a small company is a lean, this is a good thing.
2) Hard to say if the results will come. Valentino is still the strongest rider of all, but when you have no feeling with an engine is very hard to catch him. It will be a challenge. It is very difficult to get the best of the first six races, especially not with regard to the position but the gap: the battle is won if the gaps from the first fall.

ALBERTO PORTA (Sport Mediaset)
1) I did not expect a reaction so imposing and so much substance. We expected a significant step forward: it was made ??a leap into the future, returning to the present with the engine 800.
2) I am convinced that Valentino will be able to obtain better results, because the feeling that is created between rider and bike, to the Beyond performance, counts for a lot: the GP12, Valentino has been found well, now it is to recreate the chemistry between the bike and rider, we hope it is enough to see him on the podium.

ALEN STICKERS (Mediaset Premium)
1) I did not expect quite such a reaction. Only the Ducati, the Italian mentality, could do such a thing: they did well, even in the future.
2) Difficult to reach the results already in this race, because it serves so long to fix a motorcycle. By the end of the season, however, there will be improvements and we see constantly in front of Valentino.

Marco Masetti (Freelance Journalist)
1) A surprise, vastly superior to any provision-
2) I expect better results, because this is a bike that feels his own, while the other, the GP11 has called the daughter of other drivers: so rejected, it was his fault!

Yamaha celebrates its fiftieth anniversary in Assen

Yamaha celebrates its fiftieth anniversary in Asse

Yamaha celebrates its fiftieth anniversary in Asse

This week the historic Assen circuit is ready to celebrate a very special occasion. The 2011 TT at Assen, in fact, will witness a change of livery of the two Yamaha Factory Racing YZR-M1 to celebrate 50 years of racing in the Japanese House of World Grand Prix ‘three tuning forks’. In this regard, the white and red colors are representative of Yamaha Expo, which will be presented next Wednesday to reporters and that will take place during the weekend of the Grand Prix of Holland.

Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies will try to leave behind the race at Silverstone, the favorite track of both, will lift the sole objective of the championship. Just at the TT, Lorenzo has victories in all three classes of the championship while teammate Spies won pole position and success in 2009 riding a Yamaha in World Superbike and fourth place last year in his first season in MotoGP.

The circuit of Assen, often called by fans “the cathedral” for its glorious historical past, is included in the World Grand Prix calendar since the first edition in 2010 and has held no less than 80 ‘presences’. Initially, city tour of the Dutch race, after having undergone many changes to the path, takes place on one of the most challenging and technical trails of the World Championship.

Jorge Lorenzo,
“Assen is my favorite track on the right track, and the Dutch won the last year than in all the categories of the championship. This year then, for me it will be a very special occasion because it marks the 50 anniversary events Yamaha! Now we are second in the standings and the goal is to put pressure on championship leader. The team is very focused and I will absolutely return to the podium. ”

Ben Spies
“I’m really looking forward to going back to Assen is a track that I love and because the Yamaha M1 there seems to be going really well. And ‘a fast circuit and racing here is a privilege for me, when I was a kid always looked at this race Unfortunately on TV … I’m still recovering from the fall of Silverstone but I’m going to give 100% as always and try to gain the best result possible. It will be nice to run in front of the TT to the public with the special livery of Yamaha. ”

Wilco Zeelenberg
“We are happy to go to Assen with a special livery, I really like the bike will be performing white and red. We are currently second in the league and is a fairly rewarding but we will try to put some ‘pressure Stoner. We made a mistake at Silverstone and now, with 18 points behind the first, the situation is completely reversed for Jorge over the first half of the season, when it has always been before. But I think that Jorge is perfectly capable of fighting with Casey for The victory of the rest in qualifying at Silverstone were only two tenths off pole, demonstrating that our package is still competitive. ”

Massimo Meregalli
“I am pleased to participate in the 50 th anniversary of Yamaha in World Grand Prix. The team has worked hard to prepare for this event and I hope the fans appreciate the special livery, which will be performing at Assen and not only that the motion but also the new divided and the box. The Dutch circuit should be in our favor: thanks to the characteristics of our bike path should be very competitive. The TT is also one of the favorite tracks of Ben and we are optimistic because we know that, at Silverstone, the direction taken was the right one. I can not wait to be on Thursday morning to start working. “
